Understanding how bullying can be controlled.
One of the most identifiable characteristic of bullying is built in tension between different individuals. The process of understanding and accepting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds is hampered by two barriers:
- Ethnocentrism.
- Stereotyping.
ETHNOCENTRISM: The Belief in the superiority of one’s own culture is known as ethnocentrism. This attitude is found in all cultures. It causes us to judge others by our own values. In diverse societies like India, marred by caste, religion and economic inequalities, it is very common to experience bullying due to ethnocentrism.
STEREOTYPING: Our perceptions of other cultures sometimes cause us to form stereotypes about groups of people.
